Good Hair

This is a tribute to the enduring spirit of Black women and the profound significance of Black hair. Beyond adornment, hair for Black women is a cornerstone of identity, especially through the timeless art of hair braiding.

Across diverse African cultures, braided styles once communicated a woman's place and power – her marital status, her lineage, even acting as intricate visual maps and historical records. This rich tradition was violently disrupted during the transatlantic slave trade, when the forced shaving of African women's heads was a brutal act of dehumanization, designed to sever their connection to self and heritage.
